2012 Prophecy

Understanding the Mayan Doomsday Prophecy

The understanding of the Mayans of the heavens seems beyond dispute. They kept meticulous records of the movements of the sun and the stars, and their understanding of the heavens matched and even surpassed anything that was known about the sky at that point. In the first place, they depended on the movement of the celestial bodies to plan such mundane things as planting cycles, calander, and harvest times, but there are many who believe that their knowledge ranged to more esoteric things as well, including the ability to foresee events on a global level.

In the first place, there was the use of an astrological cycle that is sometimes known as the Precession of the Equinoxes. This is a calender that contains a 26,000 year cycle where the Earth moves through twelve different eras. Each era will last around 2150 years and essentially, they are each a single “month” in the cycle of this incredibly long year. Interestingly enough, the Mayas were not the only ones who believed in the significance of a period that lasted this long. The ancient Sumerians, the Tibetans, the Egyptians, the Hopi and the Cherokee also believed in the same cycle and their calenders all point to this.

With that in mind, the 2012 doomsday prophecies relate not necessarily to the end of the world, but to the end of this world. After the date of December 12, 2012, it is believed that we will be entering a new age, or a new creation. Of course, the end of the Mayan calender in this respect wouldn't hold so much weight were we not experiencing other factors that point to something more dire than the simple resetting of a calender. The forecast achieves a grim sort of significance when we take into account warnings from climate experts of a “tipping point” for the Earth as a whole, where factors like global warming will take a serious toll. There is a belief that the world itself will change irrevocably, and again and again our attention turns to the 2012 Mayan prophecies.

With the 2012 Mayan prophecy, there is also an indication that the Mayans may have been aware of a rare alignment of the Earth, Sun and the enter of the Milky Way. This change, rather than being a physical devastation, may well be a spiritual transformation or on of the soul.
